Bar conversation

Filed under: statistics — ubikcan @ 10:07 pm

A guy in a bar, let’s call him Dave, is a smoker. He says that lung cancer is mostly hereditary–your chances of getting it are largely genetic. He cites the fact that he knows no smoker who has died from lung cancer and the fact that seven other people he knows have died from lung cancer and were not smokers.

Exercise for the reader: itemise the errors of these statements.
