Dan Sui: will ubicomp make GIS invisible?

Filed under: GIS, Surveillance — ubikcan @ 3:23 pm

Just came across this article by the ever-interesting Dan Sui. He provides this provocative quote:

“The most profound technologies are those that disappear”

According to Bill Gates, apparently the average middle-class American already interacts with some 150 embedded computers a day, without even knowing it.

So will GIS be the next ubicomp (ubiquitous computing)? If so, it raises all kinds of questions. For example, putting sensors everywhere (remember the remarkable story from Chris “The Prestige” Priest about surveillance cameras scattered like confetti?)
