Incredible shaded relief

Like many people I am entranced by the possibilities of shaded relief. I have praised the work of Tom Patterson on many occasions, and visited him in his shop in Harpers Ferry. He runs shadedrelief.com and recently made a new shaded relief map of the USA. Here is part of it compared with the classic Irwin Raisz map:

Now comes a Google map mashup with shaded relief! This is amazing:

They’re working on even more detailed zoom levels. This is good stuff, amazing that no one has thought of it before (the mashup I mean).
